Free Your Mind

As a leader, we have to have short memories.  People will challenge us all the time, but we can not take those challenges personally.  As a parent, our children will challenge us, but that is what children do.

Learning to separate the action from the person can be a very difficult task to accomplish.  However, it is critical that we master this objective given that most of the negative reactions that we receive are not those of the person.

Learn to dissect the action, and not look at the person who performed the action.  Our children will do some outlandish things, but they do not really hate you (they may say it, but they do not mean it.)  Our co-workers or subordinates may not like you as a boss, but is this because of your true behavior, or is it from a difficult decision that you had to make?

Keep moving forward, don’t get stuck on dwelling on the past and allowing other people’s actions deter your blessing.  If you approach life believing that people are innately good, it will be easier for you to let go.

To let go,

1.  Focus on the action, not the person.

2.  Discuss with the person to identify the true issue.

3.  Move on and move forward.
