Expectations Set Reality

I was in a meeting when I heard someone share this story….

If you promise people $100, but you only given them $80, they will be upset.  The fact is lost that they had nothing to begin with and gained $80.  Their focus is that they “lost” $20.

People adjust their reality according to their expectations and promised made to them.  This new reality will impact their performance as they are now expecting an outcome at the conclusion of the project or event.  If this does not occur, then all heck may break loose.

Be mindful of committing and not delivering.  One of my bosses says,

Under commit, over perform.

Set expectations for people so that they are achievable.  If you begin a practice of promises underlivered, you will lose the trust of your team.

Do you encourage through promises not delivered?  Or do you promise only what you can deliver?

Kontinue to Konker.
