Who is Wearing Your Socks?

During my trip to Mississippi, I had laid down to take a nap prior to us making the long drive back home.  While I was sleep, little did I know that my son, who is 2.5 years old, had found my dress socks and put them on.  My daughter told me that when I had turned over, he quickly hid, not wanting me to find out.  When I woke up, I found him curled up in a ball on the other bed, fast asleep…and wearing my socks.

As leaders, we never know who is secretly watching us, studying us, and emulating us.  They may be taking careful notes and storing them in their personal development treasure chest.  It is easy when someone makes a blatant impression of us, but it is difficult for us to spot when we have had an influence on someone who is only internally displayed.

It is because of this we must always be cognizant of our behavior and our surroundings.  Those that we think are not paying attention, are actually studying our every move.  What we may deem as medial, may be a solution for someone else.

As a leader of a team, company, or family, always know you are under watch.  Not for someone waiting for you to fail, but someone is waiting for you to succeed so that they can utilize your experience through them.

So the question remains…Who is wearing your socks?
