Talking Loud…Ain’t Sayin’ Nothin’

I saw this quote posted by John Maxwell on Friday and it was just perfect…

Before you try to convince anyone else, be sure you are convinced, & if you cannot convince yourself, drop the subject. -JH Patterson

Let’s admit it, there are some people who just like to hear themselves talk.  They will make an argument from one position, then when you make a counterpoint, they change their argument.  Make another point, and boom..another argument.  It’s difficult to lead when your opinion constantly changes.  Even worse, its difficult to follow someone who leads in this manner.

Stay consistent.  If you are wrong in an argument or a position, just admit it and move on.  Holding the same position will quickly erode your effectiveness as a leader (and you will soon become a leader of one.)

If you find yourself where your position becomes discredited:

1.  Admit you need to change course.

2.  Let it go.

3.  Identify the next course of action.

Have you changed your course of action because of a bad course of action?  Did people appreciate your honesty and willingness to change?
